Medical Patient Flyout and use of helicopters
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Lieutenant Jonathan Harman
May 6, 2025

On Tuesday May 6th units were dispatched for sick child. This particular child has a extensive medical history and was transported by helicopter to a hospital which could accommodate the child's needs.

The use of medavac helicopters are commonly used to transport trauma patients with severe and/or life-threatening injuries to trauma center such Shock Trauma or York Hospital. However, there are times when patients with severe or life-threatening illnesses are in need of care that local or smaller hospital may not be capable handling. Many hospitals provide a specialty service(s). For example, cardiac catheter labs, trauma, burns, stroke, pediatrics, and pediatric trauma. Some of these specialty hospitals maybe a far distance to get to by ground and time consuming so the use of aviation is necessary.
