On Tuesday May 6th units were dispatched for sick child. This particular child has a extensive medical history and was transported by helicopter to a hospital which could accommodate the child's needs. The use of medavac helicopters are commonly used to transport trauma patients with severe and/or life-threatening injuries to trauma center such Shock Trauma or York Hospital. However, there are times when patients with severe or life-threatening illnesses are in need of care that local or smaller hospital may not be capable handling. Many hospitals provide a specialty service(s). For example, cardiac catheter labs, trauma, burns, stroke, pediatrics, and pediatric trauma. Some of these specialty hospitals maybe a far distance to get to by ground and time consuming so the use of aviation is necessary. |
